Reader Review "Smoke-Free for Good!"

Dear Readers, Dear Guests,

First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all my readers for the overwhelmingly positive reviews of my books so far. I am thrilled about every positive response, as I know how terrible it is to be trapped in addiction. At the same time, these reviews may encourage other smokers who are still undecided to read this book as well and finally get (another) chance to free themselves forever.

Regardless, I assure you that I will continue to publish every reader review here, whether positive or negative. The only exception to this are insulting comments directed at me personally. The reader reviews come from various sources – publicly accessible reviews online (Amazon, iTunes, etc.), entries in the guestbook from the old website, as well as emails sent directly to me.

Congratulations, this book is really excellent!

Dear Mr. Back,

I „accidentally“ came across your book „Stop – Schluss mit Rauchen“ (Author’s note, siehe below). Congratulations, I find this book absolutely wonderful! … In my opinion, every addiction has an underlying self-esteem issue, more or less hidden. I believe you’ve brought this out very well in your book, even if indirectly.

As I said at the start: great respect for your work – very understandable, very down-to-earth, very well-founded, humane and well-rounded.

Author’s note: This review refers to the original German edition published by Knaur Verlag in December 2008 as „Stop – Schluss mit Rauchen.“ The book has been published as „Endgültig Nichtraucher!“ since 2011, and as „Smoke-Free for Good!“ in English since November 2025.

Summary of His Theories

Before I read Stefan Back’s book „Der sichere Weg zum Nichtraucher“ (“The Safe Way to Become a Non-Smoker,” ), I had tried several times in vain to quit smoking. Back then, I smoked 20 to 25 cigarettes a day – and since November 3, 2006, I haven’t smoked a single one.
In this book, Stefan Back provides a summary of his theories on how to become a non-smoker. One star is deducted because Back’s books “Der sichere Weg zum Nichtraucher” and „Ohne Angst Nichtraucher werden (“Becoming a Non-Smoker Without Fear”) explain the illusion of nicotine addiction in a more detailed and comprehensible way.

Author’s note: This reader’s review refers to “Stop – Schluss mit Rauchen.” “Endgültig Nichtraucher!” is the follow-up book with identical content, now in the English Version of „Smoke-Free for Good!“

Facing the End of My Smoking Habit with More Calm and Less Fear

By chance, I came across one of your little books – “STOP – Schluss mit Rauchen” (follow-up book: “Endgültig Nichtraucher!”) – marked as a “damaged copy.” After having quit smoking for four months, I started again shortly before an exam and kept myself trapped in all sorts of excuses for why I was smoking again.

Now, as I read your short book, I’m reprogramming my thoughts and looking forward to quitting smoking with greater calm and without fear.

After 10 Years of Smoking

I quit with this book. Thank you – no withdrawal symptoms, no weight gain. However, you should be aware that you need to seriously question your smoking habit beforehand and be firmly committed to quitting. If you’re not ready, no book in the world will help.

It’s amazing how much smoking is all in your head.

Supposedly it should help…

The book was actually supposed to help… it probably failed for me – but it is very well written and nice to read.

So anyone who is more willful than I am has a real help in becoming a non-smoker with this book.

Recommendation for everyone who wants to be tempted into becoming a non-smoker.

One thing (almost) all smokers have in common: they would like not to smoke – and yet they do.
Becoming a non-smoker is a decision that smokers must make consciously.
Stefan Back, who has already helped many smokers become happy non-smokers, offers 52 motivational tips for a new way of dealing with your life – a nudge to consciously reflect on your smoking habit.
And all of this for the price of a pack of cigarettes.

Author’s note: This reader’s review refers to “Stop – Schluss mit Rauchen”. “Endgültig Nichtraucher!” is the German follow-up book with identical content. „Smoke-Free for Good! is the English Version.
